Audition Opportunities:
General Chorus:
This is for those interested in singing, light movement, and perhaps a spontaneous line or two but not a named speaking role. The general chorus may be broken into smaller choruses. This is a great place for anybody ages 15 and up to get their first experience on the stage or for
experienced persons who want a lighter commitment to participate. Everyone will need to sing in this musical, but not everyone will need to sing outside of a large group! Possible chorus
small groups are Adults, Young Men, and Young Women.
Dance Chorus:
This show is very dance heavy and has some very difficult featured dances. This is for those who have dance experience from classes or other shows that want to be in these featured dances but have no interest in a speaking role or in singing. You may be asked to lip sync if on stage during a song and not dancing. The dance chorus will go to the singing rehearsals, but we will leave it up to you if you want to sing or lip sync. This chorus will be concentrating on dance. Dance chorus will audition separately from general auditions.
Speaking roles:
Aunt Eller - large speaking, singing role with movement or dance if the actress is capable. Older adult preferred. Salty, strong farm woman who rules the roost and has a heart of gold. Mezzo-soprano.
Curly - large speaking, singing, dance role with physical intimacy. Young adult. Cocky, smart-tongued, cowboy who has a boyish side to him. Baritone.
Laurey - large speaking, singing, dance role with physical intimacy. Young adult preferred. Strong-headed, love interest of several men, self-assured. Mezzo-soprano.
Will Parker - large speaking, singing, dance role with physical intimacy. Young adult preferred. Cowboy with a big heart but not a lot of brains. In love with Ado Annie. Tenor.
Ado Annie Carnes - large speaking, singing, dance role with physical intimacy. Young adult preferred. Ado Annie is in love with the one she is currently with. Mostly innocent, but toys with all the young men. Mezzo-soprano.
Ali Hakim - large speaking, singing, possibly dance with physical intimacy. Adult. Exotic peddler from Persia (maybe, can’t believe a word he says) and has a way with the women, especially Ado Annie. Has no interest in marriage, just the open roads.
Jud Frye - large speaking, singing, with dark physical intimacy and combat. Very complex role. Adult. Aunt Eller’s farm hand. Has been employed elsewhere and has a questionable past. Dark role. Baritone.
Ike Skidmore - Speaking, singing role with light movement. Older adult preferred. Rancher where box social takes place. Baritone.
Gertie Cummings - Speaking role, may have a singing line or two. Daughter of neighboring town mercantile owner. In love with Curly but gifted with an obnoxious laugh. Self-assured and self-absorbed. Not afraid to send barbs Laurey’s way. Ends up marrying Ali Hakim. Young adult preferred.
